The Commission had seventeen members.

Tony Blair
Tony Blair set up and chaired the Commission for Africa. The former British Prime Minister is now the Quartet (USA, UN, Russia and the EU) Representative to the Middle East and leads a number of initiatives including the Tony Blair Faith Foundation and the Africa Governance Initiative.
Fola Adeola
Fola Adeola is the founder and chairman of FATE Foundation, a charitable foundation to promote entrepreneurship among the youth in Nigeria. He is founded the Guaranty Trust Bank Plc. He was appointed to the Presidential Advisory Council of Nigeria in March 2010.
K.Y. Amoako
K.Y. Amoako is the founder and president of the African Centre for Economic Transformation, an institute that provides governments in Africa with policy research and advice. From 1995-2005, he was Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa.
Nancy Baker
Nancy Kassebaum Baker was U.S. Senator for Kansas from 1979 to 1997 and was chair of the Senate Subcommittee on African Affairs. She is honorary chair of the Vital Voices Global Partnership and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Hilary Benn
Hilary Benn was the UK’s Secretary of State for International Development at the time of the Commission for Africa.
Gordon Brown
Gordon Brown was Chancellor of the Exchequer at the time of the Commission for Africa.
Michel Camdessus
Michel Camdessus is a member of the Africa Progress Panel, Honorary Governor of Bank of France, and a member of the UN Secretary General’s Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation. He is former Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (1987-2000).
Bob Geldof
Bob Geldof is a member of the Africa Progress Panel, long-standing campaigner on poverty issues and founder and director of factual television company Ten Alps. Following publication of the 2005 report, he organised ten Live8 concerts worldwide to put pressure on G8 leaders to take action on poverty in Africa.
Ralph Goodale
Ralph Goodale is House Leader of the Official Opposition in the Canadian Parliament and was Canadian Finance Minister from 2003-2006.
Ji Peiding
Ji Peiding is vice-chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress of China. Having spent most of his career in Africa, we was Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1998-2003.
William Kalema
William Kalema is Managing Director at DCDM Advisory Services Uganda Limited, executive chair of the Kilimo Trust, and trustee of the Investment Climate Facility for Africa. He previously chaired the Uganda Manufacturers Association and the Uganda Investment Authority.
Trevor Manuel
Trevor Manuel was the South African Minister for Finance from 1996 to 2009 and is currently Minister for Planning in the South African Presidency.
Benjamin Mkapa
Benjamin Mkapa was President of Tanzania from 1995-2005. He is co-chair of the Investment Climate Facility and a trustee of the Aga Khan University.
Linah Mohohlo
Linah Mohohlo is governor of the Bank of Botswana and a member of the Africa Progress Panel. She is also a board member for a number of companies.
Tidjane Thiam
Tidjane Thiam is CEO of the Prudential and member of the African Progress Panel. He was head of the National Bureau for Technical Studies and Development and later Minister of Planning and Development in Cote d’Ivoire between 1994 and 1999.
Anna Tibaijuka
Anna Tibaijuka has been Executive Director of UN-HABITAT since 2002.
Meles Zenawi
Meles Zenawi has been Prime Minister of Ethiopia since 1995 and has been Chair of the African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change since 2009.
